Is Your Glove Having a Bad Hair Day? Let’s Talk pH!

Hey there, ballplayers and glove lovers!

We all love the smell of a leather glove. There is nothing like the feeling of a perfectly broken-in mitt on your hand. But did you know your glove has a secret enemy?

It’s not dirt. It’s not even the dog trying to chew it (though that is bad, too).

The secret enemy is pH.

Wait... What is pH?

Don't worry, this isn't boring science class! Think of pH like a thermometer, but instead of hot and cold, it measures two things:

  • Acids: Think of lemons or vinegar. They are sour and stingy.

  • Bases: Think of soap or bleach. They are slippery and drying.

Leather is just skin (cow skin, usually!). Just like your own skin, leather needs to be balanced. It wants to be right in the middle. Not too sour, not too soapy. It wants to be "Goldilocks"—just right.

The "Ouch" Factor: Why Wrong pH Hurts

When you put the wrong stuff on your glove to clean or oil it, you might be accidentally hurting it. Here is what happens inside the leather:

1. The "Sour" Attack (Too Acidic) If a product has a low pH (too much acid), it starts to eat the leather. It attacks the tiny fibers that hold the glove together. Over time, your glove can turn into mush. It gets weak and floppy, like a wet noodle.

2. The "Dry" Attack (Too Basic) If a product has a high pH (like strong soaps), it pulls all the natural oils out of the leather. Imagine washing your hands 50 times in a row without lotion. Your hands would get dry and crack, right? The same happens to your glove. It gets stiff, dry, and eventually cracks open.

Keep It Balanced with Mitt-Spit

Leather is tough, but it needs kindness. To keep your glove ready for that game-winning catch, you need a product that matches the leather's natural balance.

That is why we made Mitt-Spit.

We made sure our pH is perfectly balanced. It doesn't eat the leather, and it doesn't dry it out. It just cleans it, feeds it, and keeps it happy.

So, treat your glove like a teammate. Give it the good stuff, and it will last you for seasons to come!

Play hard!
